WikiCG: A New Look for the New Year

To kick off the new year we’ve given WikiCG a sleek new interface. Our WikiCG Studio allows everyone to contribute videos, photos, and audio content for a given topic that can then be used to support written documentation in a wiki such as Wikipedia.

WikiCG is the brainchild of Ward Cunningham (extreme programmer extraordinaire, bicycle commuter, popular tweeter, and inventor of the wiki) who traveled (via plane, not bike, to save time) from Portland to work with CitizenGlobal last year, and who continues to advise us from a distance. His idea is to expand wikis from text-only to all types of media, especially video.

The result has been some pretty awesome videos! A few of our favorites include “The Descent at White Eagle“  (ghost hunting at a Portland hotel), “Suomenlinna 2.3.2011” (paragliding along a snowy shore in Finland), “Steven the Sand Surfer” (sand surfing in Colorado), and “Starboard Paddlesurf” (paddle surfing up close).

Check out our new interface and watch the callout video featuring Ward. And then… contribute your own content!

We’d love your feedback on the new interface and on WikiCG, so please send us your comments, criticisms, and suggestions. Post here or write us at help@citizenglobal.com.

Happy Thanksgiving and Thank You!

StudioOccupy enables democracy in action, and we are very proud to be of service to OWS’s deep, grassroots desire to express and articulate new ideas. We imagine StudioOccupy as a global demonstration of passionate co-creativity. The folks who are showing up are incredible, to do this work with conscious people is a privilege, and here’s a little bit of co-creativity we put together today with Deepak Chopra:

It features our OccupyThanksgiving initiative, and music by Makana, the young musician from Hawaii who sang We Are The Many, the quickly-becoming-a-classic Occupy folksong, to Obama and other world leaders in Hawaii last week. Distribute widely!

First Submissions for X PRIZE Exploration Video Contest

The first submissions are posted for the X PRIZE Exploration Video Contest and they are impressive! Visit the production page to see all the entries, but here’s a small sample:

Photographer George Steinmetz explores the Arabian desert via paraglider. Watch!

Joe Capra captures the midnight sun of Iceland in his remarkable video. Watch!

So What do YOU explore? X PRIZE urges ALL explorers to participate by creating and posting a video. So where do YOU explore? Hiking the canyons, walking the shores, peering through a telescope, digging through sandstone? It could be a block from your home, a ferry ride across the bay, a 1,000-mile trek through the Andes. And even more importantly, why do YOU explore? The challenge, the pursuit of the unknown, the satisfaction of searching and maybe finding, the adventurous solitude or camaraderie; express whatever it is that drives you to get out there. It’s not about expensive equipment and Hollywood cinematography – it’s your personal vision that X PRIZE is after.

Ready for Halloween? Ask Alice!

This charming (albeit scary) video was recently submitted to the Univision 34′s  ¡Muestranos Tu Halloween! production. It’s a Spanish language production, but people of all languages are welcome to shoot a video of themselves, or their friends in costume, and submit it. Watch the video and get into the Halloween spirit! We hope you love it as much as we do. Que rico!

You Can Inspire with the Help of Susan G Komen

SGK_blog

Has your world seemed pinker lately? October is breast cancer awareness month and CitizenGlobal has teamed up with the Susan G Komen For the Cure organization to launch the What I Would Have Missed campaign. So far we’ve received dozens of heart warming and tear jerking videos about survivors telling us what they would have missed if they had not gotten screened and treated. The content weighs heavy on your heart, but truly each of these stories is a happy one. Not only do these amazingly brave women share their triumph over cancer, but they have taken it one step further to spread the word and inspire another woman to get screened as well.

This video submitted by Teresa Lennon shows her life before, during and after cancer in pictures. In each photo Teresa is shown smiling her way through one of the most difficult trials anyone would have to go through. She is a testament to us all. Thank you for sharing Teresa!

If you or someone you know is a breast cancer survivor, you too can inspire someone to get screened by making a simple video. Click here for more information and watch the personal callout from Susan G Komen founder Nancy Brinker.

Cancer Survivors Share Their Stories and Spread Urgent Message

Komen_banner

We are thrilled to announce today’s launch of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure production, What I Would Have Missed. Breast cancer survivors, and their loved ones, are invited to tell the world what they would have missed had they not been screened and treated early, and to send an urgent message to other women to get regular screenings. Early detection is key to breast cancer survival, and regular checkups and mammograms are essential for early detection. Members of the Susan G. Komen Team have submitted their own moving stories to inspire others to submit theirs–watch them here.

Update Sept. 30th : Sheila Shayon has an informative post about this production on Brandchannel.com today.
